OEM Sales Engineer - Industrial Automation

We are seeking an experienced OEM Sales Engineer to join a new vertical specialist sales team at BPX to contribute to the continued growth and success of the business. The ideal candidate will have industry experience, technical and commercial knowledge. The ability to build lasting business relationships with new customers and develop existing customers to their maximum potential.


Job Purpose

  • Achieve sales targets, through the development of new and existing business within a targeted area.
  • Utilise high levels of interpersonal skills to develop long term relationships with customers ensuring that their requirements and business needs are interpreted and managed effectively.
  • Successfully persuade customers to work with BPX by utilising strong industry knowledge and technical expertise to deliver technical and business solutions.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • A good standard of education is required, particularly in Maths & English.
  • To effectively handle the technical requirements of this position, Sales Engineers should have a good level of technical understanding of Schneider portfolio or similar, ideally qualified to ONC level in electrical engineering. Sales engineers without this level of qualification would QBE.
  • Influencing and motivational skills are critical requirements for the role.
  • The job requires the ability to manage projects and take tasks through to their natural conclusion.
  • Good day to day planning capabilities are an essential for satisfactory performance.
  • Technical interests, specialist skills and experience are important for long term success.
  • Previous experience within a commercial / business to business sales environment is essential, preferably within a manufacturing environment.

External Sales Engineers - Industrial Controls & Automation

BPX has built a solid reputation with more than 10,000 UK customers as a specialist, technical distributor. We stock, sell, supply and support a portfolio of products used in control and factory automation systems allowing processes to operate automatically and efficiently.

We currently have exciting opportunities for External Sales Engineers to join our teams in Northampton, Nottingham, Stoke and Welwyn Garden City. We wish to strengthen our sales team with enthusiastic, likeable people who possess a technical flair and an ability to discuss complicated technologies in an easy way.

As our External Sales Engineer, you would be responsible for achieving sales targets through the development of new and existing business in your sales area. Product and sales training will be continual with this position, so the right candidate will need to be adaptable and ready to learn as they progress.

Knowledge and Experience required for our External Sales role:

  • A good level of technical understanding, ideally qualified to ONC level in electrical engineering or other relevant engineering disciplines
  • You may currently be an engineer wishing to break into sales, an experienced salesperson seeking a more technical role, or a graduate from a technical discipline.
  • A passion for sales combined with an eye for engineering solutions
  • Strong interpersonal skills as well as exceptional communication and presentation skills
  • Good day to day planning capabilities and able to meet deadlines
  • Able to liaise with our franchised partners to ensure a continued awareness of new and updated products
