COVID-19 Update

It has been some time since we offered an update upon our business but in the meantime, we have remained busy. Our branches continue to operate and we have carefully prepared the company for a phased return to more normal working.

 

Many of our colleagues continue to work from home, however, we have introduced social distancing measures in each of our locations and we are progressively welcoming more of our staff back to the office as the business demands. Our trade counters are re-opening although both deliveries and collections remain conducted in a safe way.

 

Our new HQ and trade counter in Leicester thankfully falls outside the local lockdown zone, but many of the HQ team live within the affected area. We are working closely with them to offer appropriate support and precautions.

 

CUSTOMERS

We have been delighted to hear of our customers’ success stories. Some have been kept busy by the opportunities that the pandemic has thrown up, others have successfully plotted a course through these difficult times and are now returning to normal. We are a barometer of a wide range of industries and we can happily report that our June trading has reflected a much more positive economy. It has been a privilege to work with our customers through the challenges of recent months and together adapt our businesses to new working methods. Thank you all for your custom and support.

 

BRANCH NETWORK

We are committed to returning our branch network to full-scale operation as soon as we are reasonably able to do so. Our business has been built over 55 years upon strong local relationships, providing local support and holding stock close to the customer. These principles remain at our core and we will look to take advantage of any opportunities to expand our network of branches and further enhance our service.

 

PRICES

Many of our suppliers have seen increased costs of logistics or currency exchange over the course of the last few months. As a consequence, we are seeing a number of price increases into the market. We make every effort to push back against these, to delay them where possible and to buffer their effect with increased stocks, but ultimately product prices will rise. Our sales and engineering staff are on hand to advise and recommend alternatives to products you may purchase from BPX or others, in order to ensure that our customers take advantage of the latest innovations, technologies or promotions and use the solution that offers the lowest overall cost. FREE RESOURCES

The last few months have challenged us all to find new ways of communicating and many of our manufacturer partners have run programmes of webinars offering free training and informative content. These can be accessed via the BPXtracurricular area of our website. Please explore these resources and we would welcome your feedback about topics or technologies you would like to see if you have content that you would like us to include please contact marketing@bpx.co.uk to let us know.


VISITS

Our sales and applications teams are eager to get back in front of customers. They have been busy by phone and video conference but there is no perfect substitute for seeing the equipment in operation or working side by side on a problem. Unfortunately, it will be some time before working like that becomes the norm once again. In the meantime, we have prepared our colleagues with the necessary knowledge and equipment to be able to conduct site visits in a safe way, so long as the environment is suitable. Of course, we stay available by all the normal video conference apps, phone and email.

May we say firstly that we hope you, your family and colleagues are staying safe and well. Like many companies, we are open and working almost normally. Our fleet of delivery vans is operating and delivering to customers as normal in addition our next day and same day delivery couriers are all available and ready to respond, but these are still challenging times for us all.

The news and official guidance continue to change fast and as a BPX customer, we want to make sure that you remain up to date with what's going on, what BPX are doing and how we can help your business. 

 

Moving Online

The last few weeks have seen an upsurge in our web traffic and we have worked hard to improve the content, functionality and performance of our web site. For example, you can now see Schneider’s stock availability and lead time from their UK or European warehouses in real-time from our product web pages, see how in this video. We have also improved our search to make finding the right product even easier. As ever, registered users can see their preferential pricing, order on account, view previous orders and upload bills of materials. If you need help on our website there’s live support and webchat accessible from the pages.

 

Our Branches

All locations remain open to service those customers who are operating and especially those who work directly or indirectly in critical or key industries. As always, our customers are our first priority, which is why we're pleased that we've been able to reorganise our operations to focus on offering you the best service during these difficult times. We're continuing to make changes to keep our staff and our customers working safely and we will continue to send regular email updates.

 

Call if you are struggling to pay

We know that cash flow is a challenge for many businesses at the moment. So, if you're struggling to pay your BPX invoices, please call us to discuss how we may be able to help.

 

In order to keep our customers and drivers safe all of our deliveries take place without contact and our trade counters have been re-designated as collection points. We have temporarily suspended our on-site support and training services but our desk-based technical support teams are working normally and are ready to take your calls.

 

If some of our logistics changes are a little inconvenient we apologise but hope you can understand that we are doing our best to do the right thing for all of our customers and staff. Our incredible colleagues have adjusted well to the new normal and are delivering the usual BPXcellent service from spare bedrooms and kitchen tables across the country. We will continue to do everything we can to best serve our customers at this challenging time and want to thank you for playing your part by continuing to keep your businesses operating in the most difficult of circumstances.

COVID-19, Update including Product Availability

We sincerely hope that you, your colleagues and your families are remaining safe and well in these difficult and unprecedented times. At BPX we continue to assess the recommended and best practice information being issued by the government and adopt that alongside our own high-standards of safety. The guidance changes frequently and we offer an update on the position of BPX and our supplier partners.

 

BPX Remain Open

Amongst customers of BPX are hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, ventilator manufacturers, utilities and food and beverage manufacturers. It is our responsibility to remain open to provide the products and services necessary for the continued operation of these organisations and their supply chain. It is equally our responsibility to ensure the wellbeing of our staff, customers and suppliers by doing so in the safest possible way.

 

No Changes to Service

We wrote last week of the measures taken so far including; homeworking for any staff able to do so, maintaining only a skeleton team in each location, contactless collections and deliveries. So far, we are pleased to report that none of our staff or their families have advised that they have contracted coronavirus. If this situation changes we have strategies prepared to be able to offer a continued service.

Our field and office sales teams now working from home are connected and switched on. We remain ready to assist our customers with technical, logistic and commercial responses in the normal way and of course with the usual BPXtra services. The web-chat on our website has proved to be a very popular way to get in touch over the last two weeks.

 

Product Availability

Our manufacturer partners are doing an amazing job to keep their businesses operating, we have not experienced any significant supply chain interruptions to date. Despite constraints affecting operations, especially in the Far East and Europe, it is testament to the robustness of our suppliers’ global manufacturing capabilities that their products continue to flow into our business.

If there is a change in the pattern of product availability, we will endeavour to contact any affected customers individually to discuss the impact and the alternatives.

We urge all of our customers to follow government guidelines, to remain safe and to contact us with any specific requirements, either of service or product, that would enable us to work together in a smarter or safer way. If you are considering preparations for a return to normal, please get in touch to discuss any future requirements so that they are ready to call-in upon your return to work.

BPX – Superior Service Uninterrupted

 

After last night’s announcement by the Prime Minister, we would like to reassure our customers that BPX remains open for business. Many of our customers work directly or indirectly in essential industries and we will remain open to ensure their continued supply.

We have already transitioned the majority of our office staff to work from home, leaving our head-office and branches staffed with only essential personnel. Our IT team have worked tirelessly to ensure that the home-workers are able to provide the same service as if they were in the office – just perhaps with a little more background noise!

Our branch warehouses are open, our drivers and carriers are delivering. However, our trade counters are closed, other than to collections. Both collections and deliveries will now be made without physical contact for the safety of our staff and customers. Please contact the relevant branch by phone if you wish to collect an order.

We are benefitting from our move in January into our new HQ in Leicester. It has double the stock capacity of our previous home and we have been building stocks for some weeks in anticipation of any supply chain interruptions.

It’s heart-warming to see that the BPX fighting spirit lives on and to see the determination of so many of our team to keep working and to keep supporting those customers continuing to trade. These are unprecedented and very difficult times but at BPX we will stand side-by-side with our customers and suppliers to face the challenges ahead.

In light of current Government guidelines, it has been necessary to close our trade counter. Should you wish to collect goods, please call your local sales team, who will be happy to arrange for your order to be picked, and will call you as soon as it is ready.

Once ready a member of staff will deliver your order to your vehicle, we would ask you to stay in your vehicle at this time to ensure distancing rules are maintained.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience but trust that you recognise our aim to protect our staff and yourselves.

Dear All,

 

We offer an update from BPX in light of the fast-changing nature of the COVID-19 outbreak, which is causing considerable concern for everyone in our community.

 

Firstly, we want to assure you that we are doing everything we can to adapt to the new circumstances that we are all faced with and we thank our customers, suppliers and especially our colleagues, for their patience loyalty and their hard work in tackling the continuing challenges and uncertainty that the virus has so far brought. It is our primary duty and responsibility to take care of our colleagues and their families and to provide a safe place of work. Being at BPX has always been like being a part of a big family and at these times we recognise that looking out for each other is more important than ever.

In the meantime, the BPX Team continue to work tirelessly to fulfil all orders, enquiries and technical support requests and to ensure as limited an impact as possible to all of our valued customers. They do so as our working environment is changing rapidly.

 

We are ensuring that:

  • All members of the BPX Group sales and support teams can work from home if required. Many have transitioned already
  • BPX internal ERP systems, communication processes and software are suitable for a remote working eventuality.
  • BPX are working closely with our suppliers and logistics partner to ensure minimum disruption to deliveries.

 

General notes to consider:

  • Stock is held locally at all of our branches, if you have any special requirements please contact your local branch on their normal number.
  • Stock availability at branch level is visible at www.bpx.co.uk or by contacting any of our locations.
  • Our website offers datasheets, manuals, pricing and stock information. Orders can be placed online for any branch and using existing credit account facilities.
  • Customers will be notified in advance of any currently unforeseen lead time issues.
  • We will endeavour to meet the requirements for on-site support when we can assure the welfare of our staff.

 

Client Communication:

  • We are equipped to host group calls with clients.
  • Our website offers online chat and messaging functionality
  • We are ready to accept video conference calls from customers or suppliers
  • You can contact us by Skype, WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger, Website Livechat and all of our BPX social media profiles. 
  • Our sales team will contact customers with diarised face-to-face meetings to change these to video or audio calls.
  • Calls can be made on our normal numbers although the call could be forwarded to an individual member of staff, who may be working elsewhere.

 

We will continue to follow the Government's guidance, working closely with all partners, to ensure that BPX takes the actions necessary to support our customers, suppliers and colleagues. In addition, we are working around the clock to find new ways that we can further support our customers during this period of unprecedented uncertainty. We want to help and find new ways – however big or small - to alleviate the pressures customers are likely to face, or may already be facing.
